2024 Window Treatment Trends

by Christen

Window treatments are some of the most important decorative elements in your home, providing privacy and beauty at the window. If your blinds, shades or curtains are looking a little tired, then make 2024 the year you give your windows a refresh. Here’s a list of the top window treatment trends for 2024 and don’t forget to sign up for a free in-home consultation with a Kirsch certified designer when you’re ready to get decorating!

Black Roller Shades

With black vinyl windows becoming the go-to choice for new builds, we’ve seen a major uptick in homeowners interested in dark window treatments. Unlike white or neutral colors that will stand out when mounted in dark-colored windows, black roller shades essentially disappear, maintaining that sleek, minimalist aesthetic.

Another benefit of black window treatments is their ability to darken a room, making them a great choice for media rooms and bedrooms where light management is just as important as privacy. Depending on the amount of view-through or opacity, dark fabric choices can either soften the glare of incoming light or completely obscure it, creating the perfect environment for sleep or a movie.

Café Curtains

Once considered old-fashioned or dated, café curtains have been brought back to life by younger generations who love their sweetness. Unlike drapery panels that are mounted above the window, café curtains are mounted midway, obscuring the view where privacy is most needed.

Interior Stylist and Design Influencer, Emily Henderson chose gorgeous café curtains for her primary bathroom windows. The beautiful white linen fabric and brass hardware added romance and softness in a way that blinds or shades couldn’t.

Natural Fiber Woven Shades

Woven shades have become a go-to for design influencers because of their wonderful texture and ability to coordinate with other natural materials in a room, like wood furniture and flooring. Handcrafted from organic materials like grass, reeds and bamboo, woven shades are truly the most unique window treatment on the market, offer unmatched texture at the window.

Decorative banding and matching top treatments elevate the look of these natural shades and optional room-darkening liners can reduce light leaking through the woven pattern.

Matching Trim Color and Window Treatments

For decades, most people matched their blinds with their window’s trim color, which is why most white or neutral window coverings for their windows have always been the most common. But now, homeowners are painting their walls, ceilings and trim the same color, and clients are more open to choosing a non-white fabric that maintains that tone-on-tone look they are trying to achieve.

When Emily Henderson decorated her primary bedroom, she painted the entire room – walls, trim and ceiling – a lovely shade of gray-blue. And when it came time to choose the fabric for her drapery panels, she selected a dark blue within the same color family. We love this fresh approach to color and are excited to see more homeowners embrace non-white window treatments as this trend goes mainstream.

Energy-Saving Cellular Shades

If there is one thing that never goes out of style, it’s saving money. And with the U.S. Federal Government offering up to $1,200 in tax credits* on qualifying products that improve energy efficiency, we know Kirsch Cellular Shades (one of the only window treatment products eligible for the tax credit), are going to be very popular with homeowners in 2024.

Featuring a cell-in-cell construction that traps air, Cellular Shades provide superior insulation at the window, reducing energy loss year round. These earth-friendly shades are not only efficient, they are also beautiful and add that wow factor to your home.

If saving money and the planet are important to you in the new year, make sure to ask a Decorview designer about more details on eligible fabrics.

Brass Drapery Hardware

With more traditional decorating styles like English country or cottagecore becoming so popular, brass hardware has seen a major resurgence as homeowners try to infuse an old-world look in their spaces. If you’re worried gold hardware might look to gaudy in your home, don’t worry, our curtain hardware collections feature a wide variety of finials from ornate to modern, allowing you to get that luxury look without overpowering the space.

Moreover, brass drapery rods seamlessly complement other gold-accented decorative elements within the home, harmonizing with cabinet hardware and brass light fixtures, thereby creating a cohesive and visual continuity throughout the space.

Automation

Every year, our homes get smarter as more devices and appliances become smart-home ready. In 2024, we expect to see more homeowners interested in the functional benefits of automated window treatments. Currently, nearly every window treatment style can be controlled using a remote or app. And for the ultimate smart-home experience, you can even schedule your blinds, shade or shutters to move at scheduled times throughout the day.

Motorized window coverings not only make our lives easier, they also make our blinds and shades more beautiful and safe, removing dangling cords that look cluttered and can pose a safety risk to small children and pets.
